CBSE Class 10 Social Science 2024 Question Papers: Exam Pattern

The Class 10 Social science question paper contains six sections:

The question paper comprises six sections: A, B, C, D, E, and F. There are 37 questions in the question paper.

  • Section A: From questions 1 to 20, there are MCQs of 1 mark each.
  • Section B: Questions No. 21 to 24 are Very Short Answer Type Questions, carrying 2 marks each. The answer to each question should not exceed 40 words. 
  • Section C contains Q.25–Q.29, which are short answer type questions, carrying 3 marks each. The answer to each question should not exceed 60 words. 
  • Section D: Questions 30 to 33 are long-answer type questions, carrying 5 marks each. The answer to each question should not exceed 120 words.
  • Section-E: Questions no. 34 to 36 are case-based questions with three subquestions and are worth 4 marks each. The answer to each question should not exceed 100 words.
  • Section F: Question No. 37 is map-based, carrying 5 marks with two parts: 37a from History (2 marks) and 37b from Geography (3 marks).  

Marking pattern of SST Question Paper Class 10th 2024–25 

Let’s understand the marking pattern for a better overview of the CBSE SST Class 10 question paper 2024–25.

  • Weightage of Marks: The marking pattern typically allocates a certain number of marks to each section or unit within the SST Paper. History carries a total of 20 marks, 18 for questions and 2 for map pointing, Geography includes 17 marks for theoretical questions and 3 marks for map pointing, political science has a total of 20 marks weightage in the question paper, and economics also includes 20 marks in the question paper.  
  • Distribution of Marks: Marks are distributed among different types of questions, such as multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of 20 marks, short-answer questions (SAQs) of 15 marks, and long-answer questions (LAQs) of 15 marks.
  • Importance of Each Question: The marking scheme indicates the importance of each question by assigning marks accordingly. Higher marks are usually allotted to questions that require more detailed and comprehensive answers.
