Class 12 Physical Education Exam Pattern Based on Sample Paper(2024-25)

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has a well-structured pattern for the class 12 Physical Education Exam. The paper tests your knowledge of sports, health, physical fitness, and related scientific topics. Let us see a detailed look:

Section A: This section consists of 18 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), each worth 1 mark. All questions in this section are compulsory. These MCQs will test your basic understanding and factual knowledge of concepts in physical education.

Example: For developing muscles, which nutrients should be increased in the diet?

  1. Vitamins
  2. Minerals
  3. Protein
  4. Carbohydrates

Section B: This section contains questions that require short answers of about 60-90 words. Students are expected to answer any 5 questions from a total of 6. Each question carries 2 marks.

Example: What do you understand by the term goal setting?

Section C: This section involves a little bit of long answers, typically between 100 and 150 words. You must attempt 5 questions out of 6, with each question carrying 3 marks. Here, you will need to provide a bit more detail, including definitions, explanations, or examples.

Example: What are the health problems faced by a woman due to the female athlete triad in its sports and athletic performance?

Section D: In this section, case study-based questions are presented. You will need to answer questions based on these case studies, which are worth 4 marks each. There is an internal choice available, so you can choose which case study you are more comfortable with. This section is designed to evaluate your ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.

Section E: This final section contains long-answer questions, requiring responses of 200-300 words. You are expected to answer any 3 questions out of 4, with each question carrying 5 marks.

Example: Discuss the purpose of the Rikli & Jones fitness test and explain the procedure of any two test batteries in detail.

With a total of 70 marks, the exam is 3 hours long, giving you enough time to think through your answers if you manage your time wisely.

How to Use the Physical Education Sample Paper Effectively

Using a sample paper can make a huge difference in your exam preparation. Here’s how you can use it:

  • Before solving the paper, make sure you thoroughly understand the exam pattern and marking scheme. Knowing how much each section is important will help you allocate your time and effort appropriately.
  • When practicing with a sample paper, try to create real exam conditions. Set a timer for 3 hours and solve the paper without any distractions. This will help you practice time management and get used to the pressure of completing the paper within the given time.
  • While studying, make brief notes for each topic. Highlight important definitions, terms, and concepts. These notes will be incredibly helpful for revision, especially as the exam approaches.
  • Whether you're answering short or long questions, keep your responses clear and to the point. Avoid writing unnecessary information.
  • After completing the sample paper, review your answers carefully. Compare them with solutions or check your books for correctness. This will help you identify areas where you need to improve, such as clarity in explanation or understanding of specific concepts.
  • Use the sample paper to highlight your weak areas. If you struggle with case studies or have trouble writing detailed answers, dedicate more time to practicing those types of questions.
  • Don’t leave revision until the last minute. Make a habit of regularly revisiting what you’ve studied. This will strengthen your understanding and help you remember key concepts during the exam.

Additional Resources to Boost Your Preparation

While sample papers are a great way to practice, there are several other resources that can enhance your study process and help you prepare.

Mind Maps

Mind maps are excellent for quick revision and understanding important concepts. They can help you imagine how different topics in physical education are connected, such as the principles of training or the physiological effects of exercise. Creating your mind maps as you study will make it easier to revise information during the exam. You can make them creative according to yourself.

YouTube Lectures

Many educational channels on YouTube provide free, detailed explanations of the physical education syllabus. These video lectures can be particularly helpful if you’re struggling to understand a topic.

Reference Books

In addition to the NCERT textbook, which is the core of the CBSE syllabus, you can use other reference books for more practice questions and detailed explanations. These books often provide additional practice questions and summaries that can be extremely helpful for your preparation.
