Where should you focus to make the most in the Class 12 English exam?

To excel in class 12 NCERT English, students should focus on the following main areas:

  1. Comprehension
  2. Writing Skills
  3. Grammar and language proficiency
  4. Literary Appreciation

Comprehension

The comprehension section of the NCERT English Exam tests a student's ability to understand the words. This includes both seen and unseen passages. To excel in this area, you should practice the following:

  • Active reading is an important step for success in every subject. Engage actively with the text. Highlight important points, make short notes, and summarise paragraphs in your own words.
  • Pay attention to the context of the passage. Understanding the setting, characters, and background can provide a deeper view of the text.
  • Critical thinking is a major skill to learn, go beyond the surface meaning, and analyse the author’s words and themes.

Writing Skills

Writing skills are a main part of the English syllabus. This section tests the ability to express ideas clearly and effectively. The main writing text includes essays, articles, reports, and letters.

  • Practicing regularly writing essays, articles, and reports on various topics will not only help you improve your writing skills but also your ability to organise your thoughts.
  • Always ensure that your writing is properly structured. Use clear paragraphs, appropriate headings, and a main flow of ideas.
  • Always recheck the vocabulary and grammar, and enhance the quality of your writing. Regularly learn new words and practice grammar exercises.

Grammar and literary skills

Grammar is the backbone of any language. A strong foundation in grammatical rules is essential for effective communication, whereas literature provides insights into the world of human experience and emotion.

  • Try to cover all the aspects of grammar, such as tenses, voice, narration, clauses, determiners, prepositions, etc.
  • Read actively and engage with the text by asking a question. Understand literary devices such as metaphor, simile, personification, etc.
  • Regularly solve grammar exercises.
  • Participate in discussions and debates. This will help you understand a different perspective on the topic.
