Xylem:

The xylem is a conducting tissue that aids in the transport of water and minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant. It is made up of four elements.

1. Tracheids
2. Vessels
3. Xylem parenchyma
4. Xylem fibres

Tracheids:

1. Tracheids are tube-like cells with a tapering end that are dead.
2. Gymnosperm and lower angiosperm have the highest concentration. They lack protoplasm and have a thick lignified wall.
3. Their primary role is to convey water and minerals.

Vessels:

1. They can be found in angiosperms. These are lengthy cylindrical structures that resemble tubes.
2. The walls are lignified, and the centre hollow is quite huge. They are also lifeless and devoid of protoplasm.
3. Mostly involved in water and mineral conduction, as well as providing mechanical strength to the plant.

Xylem Fibre:

A lignified cell with a central lumen and dead walls. Water transportation and mechanical assistance are two of my responsibilities.

Xylem Parenchyma:

Starch and fat are stored only by live xylem cells. They aid in the movement of water over short distances.
