Why is the use of iodised salt advisable?

Answer:

Iodine is essential for synthesis of the hormone thyroxine in the thyroid gland. Thyroxine controls basal metabolic rate, carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism. Deficiency of thyroxine causing disorders of goitre Therefore, it is always advisable to take iodised salt.
