Question:

In Chapter 1, we saw what may be development for one may be destructive for others. The setting of SEZs has been opposed by some people in India. Find out who these people are and why they are opposing it.

Answer:

For the last few years, the Government of India and the State Governments have made strong efforts to attract foreign investment in India, in which the establishment of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is the main one. Some people in India have opposed the establishment of Special Economic Zones. These people include farmers and tribal people. These people are opposing the establishment of Special Economic Zones because they are afraid that with the establishment of SEZ, their land will be taken away by the government and their life will become dangerous.
