Students spend hours understanding concepts but when they try to attempt related concept questions, they can’t recall them. It is something the majority of students will relate to.

Even toppers who have 168 hours a week still manage to have a life despite many thinking that they don’t have a social life. Ever heard the phrase “Work Smarter not Harder”? The question arises how can you study in those 168 hours and have a social life at the same time? The article on scientifically proven ways to study better here will answer your question.

Study Smart With These Scientifically Proven Methods

This writing piece will include scientifically proven learning methods for students that will give fruitful outcomes.

1. Feynman Technique

Well, the Feynman Technique is what helped me in writing this article too, so this scientifically proven memorization technique is tried and tested. Try to understand the concept and explain it to yourself like you are explaining it to someone else and write it down.

Choose a small topic and after going through it, make pointers on what you learned in that topic. If the topic involves some technical terms, write it down for memory notes. Compare it with chosen topic and go through the pointer that you may have missed.

2. Distributed Practicing

How about we start studying early instead of waiting for the datasheet release and cramming everything a day or night before?

Distributed Practice comes under the 5 best ways to study effectively scientifically proven techniques for smart learning where students don’t have to study for long hours every day. You can make a timetable where you can allot 3 days for learning and three days for practicing.

  • Day1 to Day3: Learning in chunks
  • Day4 to Day6: Recalling

Try to recall previously learned concepts every one or two weeks. Waiting till the last minute will only make you tense so why not start early in the academic year?

3. Colorful Memory Notes

A study suggests colored notes, especially warmer colors come under scientifically proven ways to study better. Not everyone likes black and white with messy scrawling. You might have heard how kids get attracted to colors easily. The color memory notes indicate having a positive influence.

Color Coding Makes Learning Interesting

  • Try to make interactive notes you can use:
  • Yellow to highlight important points,
  • Red for the topics,
  • Categorize the topics by color theme.

Just use a color scheme for important themes so that the relevance of books and notes persists.

4. SQ3R Method

A five-step reading comprehension technique is SQ3R or SQRRR method. Amongst the best scientifically proven ways to improve memory, you can find the problem and the solution within the textbook.

  • In this Survey step, you have to identify the main features and concepts of the chapter by taking a small topic and making notes.
  • After identifying the important concepts, try to figure out all possible questions from that topic.
  • Here reading comes after shortlisting the main concepts. Read the chosen topic without missing a single point.
  • Write a summary in your words on the chosen concept and try to answer all the questions you formulated in step 2.
  • Review the quiz and the concept.

5. Leitner System

How about we use a technique that uses flashcards? If you were looking for something creative scientific ways to learn faster then the Leitner technique is the answer for you. This technique uses flashcards and will assist you in keeping track of when and what you have to learn.

Let’s understand how this technique works.

Get four or more boxes and label each for every day, every two days, every week, every two weeks, and so on. Now, you have to make a set of topics and place it in the boxes as per the need. You can shift the cards to the next box if the topic you chose is covered otherwise put it in the backward direction.

6. Reward Yourself

Getting rewarded or GIFTS excites everyone, especially the one you deserve makes this whole scientifically proven memorization technique interesting. Once you have achieved your set target, for instance covering even 50% of the chapter in two hours; treat yourself with a break.

Have your favorite food or just take a rest. You can also set gifts for yourself after every goal as per your liking.

7. Sleep

Sleep is something one shouldn’t compromise with. Everyone deserves a good sleep. You can have some reading and learning a few hours before bed but let your brain process all the information you have taken that day. Pulling an all-nighter will make you forget everything you have learned so far.

Every student is unique and learns at their preferred pace. Learning shouldn’t happen because you are supposed to achieve a certain percentage and use it as one goal, but your aim should be to acquire knowledge. The goal is to work smart, not hard.
