Answer the following questions briefly.

(i) What factors are responsible for the distribution of plants and animals in India?

(ii) What is a bio-reserve? Give two examples.

(iii) Name two animals having habitats in the tropical and Montane types of vegetation.

Answer:

(i) India has different types of bio-forms. India is one of the 12 mega bio-diversity countries in the world. This huge diversity in flora and fauna kingdom is affected due to the following factors:

  • Climate
  • soil
  • land
  • temperature
  • sunlight
  • precipitation

(ii) Biosphere reserve refers to 'learning places for sustainable development’. They are places for testing interdisciplinary approaches to understand and manage changes and interactions between social and ecological systems, including conflict prevention and management of biodiversity. Examples of bio-reserves are Nilgiri and Nanda Devi.

(iii) Animals having habitat in the tropical and Montane type of vegetation are: Deer and squirrels.
