Question:

Let us discuss : What will happen if plants and animals disappear from the earth's surface? Can human beings survive under such a situation? Why is biodiversity necessary and why should it be conserved?

Answer:

The ecological balance will be completely destroyed if the plants and animals disappear from the earth's surface. No oxygen will be left for breathing without plants and everyone will die.

In such a situation, no human being can survive because, in this ecosystem, plants, animals and human beings are interdependent.

Bio-diversity is a fundamental part of Earth's life support system. It is important for many basic natural services for humans, such as freshwater, plants, soil, clean air, etc. Bio-Diversity plays a major role in regulating natural processes such as weather systems, growth of plants, growing species of animals, etc. Bio-diversity also helps in providing medicines, building materials, fibres, dyes, oil, etc. Thus, we must conserve and maintain Bio-diversity for a balanced ecosystem.
