2. How do Mendel’s experiments show that traits are inherited independently?

Question:

How do Mendel’s experiments show that traits are inherited independently?

Answer:

Mendal crossed two pea plants with contrasting traits to show that the traits are inherited indepently. He crossed the pea plant having yellow color and rounded seeds with the pea plant in green color and wrinkled seeds. The F1 generation has all round and yellow seeds whereas F2 generation inherited all the characters independently (yellow, green, wrinkled, and rounded). The phenotypic ratio of F2 generation is 9:3:3:1; 9 plants with round yellow seeds, 3 plants with green seeds, 3 plants with yellow wrinkled seeds, and 1 plant with green wrinkled seeds.
