Question:

Under what soil condition do you think a farmer would treat the soil of his fields with quick lime (calcium oxide) or slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) or chalk (calcium carbonate)?

Answer:

Soil Treatment

  • The farmer adds slaked lime, quick lime, and chalk when the soil becomes unsuitable for farming due to it being acidic.
  • Usage of slaked lime, quick lime, and chalk boosts soil fertility.
  • Due to a number of reasons, the soil can turn acidic, resulting in farmers using these bases.
  • These bases work as the neutraliser to reduce the acidity in the soil.
  • There will be a neutralisation reaction in this case.
