Question:

All this is so remote for me. Is democracy all about rulers and governments? Can we talk about a democratic classroom? Or a democratic family?

Answer:

Democracy is not just about rulers and governments but it is a principle which can be applied to any sphere of life. In a democratic decision, consultation and consent are involved by those who are affected by that decision. In this way, the principle of democracy can be applied to any organization. For example; we can have democracy in our classroom where each student is free to ask any question or can participate in class freely. Teachers have a democratic temperament, and interaction between teacher and student is not one-way or healthy two-way. Democracy can also prevail in a family, where decisions are taken with the mutual consent and consultations of every member of the family. Thus, we can say that democracy is not just for the rulers and government but it can be applied in the classroom and family as well.
